I bought almost all the CS6 Web and Print books. I found this one to be the best.
I hated the CIB Dreamweaver book but this one was well written and stepped me through just about everything.

I give this book 4 stars because I am very impressed with the way it was put together. I’m an old PageMaker user and I really did not know what to expect.
I assumed that my work with PageMaker wouldn’t help me much, and I was right. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn InDesign CS6 in the fastest way possible. The reason I didn’t give it that 5th star, is probably more about me than it is about the book. There were only a few places where I had to go back over an exercise when I did not get the results shown in the book; and in every case, it’s because I missed a sentence, or it didn’t register at the time I read it the first time.
This is not a criticism by any means, but for me, after reading the book and doing the exercises, I’m embarrassed to admit that I still don’t feel like I can jump in and create a work of my own. The lessons are nicely “bite sized” and relatively complete for a single purpose. They “climb the ladder” from simple introduction all the way through “mastery” of the software. I have had numerous times when “the stupid instruction didn’t work” or “didn’t make sense” to me It was working through those issues that produced the real experiential learning. I only wish that other software providers would offer similar instructional tools.
The world would, indeed, be a better place. I purchased this book for a class I was taking at a Junior College. Adobe’s books are easy to use and understand. I last used inDesign some time ago so I was looking for an update to get me underway. At first I found the approach taken by the authors very pedantic and slow but things improved with time as I became used to the book and the programme.
But the reason for only giving three stars is that when things went pear-shaped the book was very little use and I wasted considerable time searching for a solution to my problem. Eventually I found it, but not in the book.
The book doesn’t cope with the realities of day-to-day use. I am still looking for a replacement that deals with CS6 in a similar way. See all reviews.
