Which router do you have? Both your Mac and NAS are connected to this router via cable? How much memory RAM you have installed on your Mac? I never looked deep into my network settings as I never had problems streaming videos or music from my NAS onto my Macs, iPad, or other devices with any other software I used or use. This always worked seamless without any hiccups and still does. I do communicate with my NAS over my Macs – works perfect.
My router is the latest Fritz! I would have to buy a M. Else I only have spinning hard drives. This might help to get rid of the hiccups. NAS performance is not that critical.
My Synology is a budget 2 bay that is now 10 years old. It works with up to DSD without any issues. I have to think about buying Audirvana, as the test period is over. Not to start a flame war here, but does one miss not having MQA on Qobuz? I agree with Mike. Plus, of course, as I mentioned thousands of other hi-res titles from labels that do not support MQA. The choice is just so much larger. Not to mention things like the CD booklet being available not via Mosaic but just use the Qobuz desktop app to view these and a lot more.
However, may I suggest the easy way to make up your mind? The endpoint then interfaces with an external dac. For example, for background music, I have 6 endpoints throughout the house and multiple of them I use the little Apple TV devices, for the others I use wireless speakers, and some homepods.
For my main dedicated audio room, I use the ps audio ds sr dac hooked up with the Ethernet interface, never will use the flawed usb interface for more critical listening.
